Hello everyone--

Been a while, I suppose, and alas, not much time to recap the past months right now. Just a quick request--I lost my cell phone at Miche's wedding (yep, nothing changes, I know,) and have though I have been able to hoard together a partial list of phone numbers from Skick, I alas have come up sadly short (yep, nothing changes, I know ;-) So...if those of you who would like for me to have your number...assistance please? ...I'm sure to post something semi-substantial up here again. Maybe now's a good time.

So, most of you probably already know about the great-big-chasing-my-own-tail jobhunt I've been lost in the midst of for the past few weeks, but here's a brief rundown anyway. Got laid off (along with the rest of the office) long before I was promised, found myself jobless but with a pretty hefty severence check, so I really couldn't complain. Despite all the promises to keep me on for a few extra weeks, I had anticipated otherwise (damn good thing too,) so within an hour of stepping out of the office for the last time I had three potential job offers. Two guaranteed, one potential, I guess, which is where the problems began, and before I knew it (long story short) I was working a temp job and all the offers had fallen out beneath me due to some /really/ shitty timing. Was pretty pissed, but now it's all a bit funny...

...Two weeks later, after putting in my fair share of horrendously boring hours doing data entry, it looks like the exact same thing is about to happen. The outcome, however, will surely be different. For now, I'm out of the data entry bullshit and on to getting paid way too much to answer about 30 phone calls in an 8 hour day while surfing the net. Can't really complain about that as an interim...

...Nothing much more to report than that. Getting all geared up for the big bash on Saturday, eating lots of deeeelicious food and trying to squeeze in a few hours of sleep evey night has been plenty to keep me busy of late.

Sometimes it amazes me that all of us (friends and I) seemed to know shit like this and the same for Iraq-WMD-bullshit long ago, yet still ninety percent of America was so recently convinced otherwise.

Might sound a bit odd, but all these friends in the middle of finals-week-stressed-out-strung-out-mania makes me really miss school. Chain-smoking caffeine-blitzed all-nighters at the coffee shop are some of the best parts of education, I swear.

So, recovery for my company's "lets fuck cyberpsycho up the ass" is well under way. I managed to weasel an extra 2 weeks of employment out of my pseudo-ex-boss, which gives me a bit more time to find a new job. It's been about a week, and I've already dropped something near 20 resumes, and my second interview is on Friday. Only a matter of time, now. I just hope I can pull in a bit more money this time around--I'm right in the middle of peak birthday season (like 8 in one month,) which tends to get a bit expensive.

In other news, I woke up this morning and realized that I have everything I could possibly need--midi keyboard, computer practically glowing from an overflow of recently acquired music and graphics apps, plugs, headphones...
None of it supplies me with more time, of course, but every bit of it perpetually supplies me with the drive to secure more time, which I think is just about the most I could ever ask for.

Japan seems close again. So does everything and everyone else.

So, a couple of months ago when it was announced that my office would be closing down and systematically laying everyone off or transferring them to New York, I was assured that I had nothing to worry about--there would be plenty for me to do until mid to late August, not long before I'm leaving for Japan. Since then, all has been progressing normally.

Today, I got a sudden, strange sort of doubt from something one of my coworkers said, and approached the powers at be in an attempt at swiftly destroying said concerns.

Pawn: "I know it's probably nothing to be concerned about, I just want to check and make sure that the deal we have about me staying until late August still stands."
Power: "No, sorry, we've changed our minds in a wholly disgusting manner suited to our vast and stinky corporate assholes. Call it a whim. We still like you, but we're weird and indecisive, so you're done on June 21st."
Pawn: "Wow, three weeks? What about that promise?"
Power: "Foolish mortal! Bow down and give me head!"
Pawn: "Uh, no thanks. But hey, were you planning on telling me this, or just giving me a check and a footprint on the ass in 3 weeks?"
Power: "Um, the second one. Now bow down!"
Pawn: "Uh, no thanks. Gonna go smoke now. From my eyes and nose."

Japan has never seemed so far away, and September has never seemed so close.

A night of really twisted dreams followed by a bloodshot-eyed awakening has left me in an odd state this morning. I feel as if I've stepped into a pair of shoes that do not belong to me, found my way into an office that--despite apparent familiarity--my mind does not want to trust as reality, and sat down to do things I know nothing about. I'm here, and I'm me--everything else is displaced fantasy.

At roughly 1AM I was driving a truck with 10 gears, 18 wheels and 1 passenger. A vicious bend in the road caused an instant loss of control, followed by the entirety of the ungainly vehicle to jackknife violently. The freeway was wide--three lanes wider than the 405 through the South Bay, and when it cut through this bent-redwood forest, always left, it felt like the cars were standing still and it was moving. The jackknifing became contagious within seconds, resulting in a very slow, unavoidable pile-up...I'm not sure how we survived, but when we got out, everything was still and silent. No more traffic, no doubt on account of the rain I could hear but still not feel. The only people I could see were as frozen as the cars that bore them, though dead never entered my mind--just frozen. With nothing else to do, we walked. It wasn't long before I realized that this freeway was holding something for someone, but I was pretty sure it wasn't for me. Mild curses for landing myself in someone else's twisted REM again. Everything soon became a long string of interactions with freeway denizens--a gang of kids sitting on a mountain of oil drums, some painted-faced CHPs stripping bark with sharp knives from things that should not bear bark, a tollman with more hair than teeth, but not enough of either to go around. Each held clues for someone else's mystery, none of which I had any hopes at deciphering.

I woke up with a spider crawling across my face. Big motherfucker. It's a good thing that woke me up, because the next thing that drained fantasy from reality, or vice versa, was the Fearless Sentinel Hunter-the-Cat making a dive for the spider. While it was still traversing my forehead. Adrenaline kept me up for a while after that.

The coffee of the day, down in the breakroom, is called Black Pearl. The pirate bandwagon is hard to resist, even in the marketing world. I'm starting to remember this place, and I seem to recall liking it, a lot. Although many, less idealistic specimens would disagree, I believe that reality is a really marvelous companion for those big, bright stretches between dreams.
